Another key component of JIBC’s Code of Conduct policy is accessibility, which relates to policy #3209, Accommodation of Students with Disabilities.
Policy #3209 Accommodation of Students with Disabilities
JIBC is committed to providing a safe, inclusive and accessible environment for students with disabilities. A disability may include any long-term or recurring mobility, hearing, visual, learning disability, or a mental and physical health condition which affects learning. Our Institute’s Disability Services works with faculty and staff to remove structural and attitudinal barriers in order to ensure that students with disabilities have access to resources and opportunities, allowing them to pursue educational goals with dignity, independence and full participation within the JIBC community.
As a JIBC evaluator, it is important for you to be aware of Accommodation of Students with Disabilities Procedure Number 001, which sets out the process for making and dealing with a request for accommodation. As noted in this procedure, if a student discloses their disability to you and is seeking accommodation relative to an evaluation, you should refer that student to the Manager, Student Advising and Learning Strategies. Remember that whether or not to provide accommodation must not be a personal, ad hoc decision.
